Fairfield, Conn. - Stony Brook University's softball team dropped a pair of games to Sacred Heart in a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon in Pioneer Park. Senior Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) recorded ten strikeouts in the Seawolves 1-0 loss in game one. Stony Brook made a late rally in game two, but eventually fell, 5-2. SBU is now 24-16-1 on the season.

Struzenberg allowed just three hits in six innings of work, but two of them came back-to-back in the fourth inning to plate the lone run of the game. Sacred Heart's Jill Timmer recorded the RBI with a two-out double to leftfield.

Game two started off as another pitchers' duel with just one hit being recorded over the first three innings of play. Sacred Heart eventually broke the tie with a run in the fourth, then went up 5-0 on a two-out grand slam by Timmer in the fifth.

Stony Brook would make a dramatic rally in the seventh when seniors Katelyn O'Donnell (Kingston, Mass.) and Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) hit back-to-back home runs with two outs. O'Donnell took a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence before Kavitsky pulled hers to right field.

Junior Brijette Martin (New York, N.Y.) extended the inning in an odd fashion, reaching base on a wild pitch after having struck out. A walk would put runners on first and second, but Sacred Heart's Nicole Sidor escaped any further damage by inducing a fly out to right for the final out.

Stony Brook heads back onto the road this weekend for a crucial America East matchup with Binghamton.
