Game One Box Score
Game Two Box Score

Vestal, N.Y. - Freshman Shannon O'Shea (Lake Worth, Fla.) had a career day, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, as the Stony Brook University softball team split its doubleheader with Binghamton on Saturday afternoon. SBU defeated the Bearcats, 4-3, in game one before dropping game two, 4-1. Stony Brook is now 25-17-1(8-5 America East) while Binghamton moves to 23-17 (7-10 America East).

Stony Brook jumped out to an early lead in game one, posting a pair of runs in the top of the first. Sophomore Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) and senior Crista Cerrone (Floral Park, N.Y.) made the Bearcats pay for three walks with a pair of RBI singles.

Binghamton would answer in the third, however, taking the lead at 3-2 on a single to right which plated two runs. The lead would not last long though, as sophomore Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y.) and senior Vicki Kavitsky (Cherry Hill, N.J.) opened the fourth inning with back-to-back singles. O'Shea then hit a two-out single to the gap in left centerfield to put the Seawolves back on top 4-3.

Senior Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) allowed just one batter to reach base after the third inning, as she held on for her 17th win of the season. Five of her eight strikeouts came after the fourth inning.

The Seawolves struck first in game two as well, as O'Shea knocked in her third run of the day with an RBI single to centerfield in the fourth inning. Binghamton quickly answered though, scoring twice in the bottom half of the inning on a double to right.

A pair of solo homers in the fifth would give the Bearcats their third and fourth runs of the game.

Stony Brook will finish its series with Binghamton with a single game tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
