Game Two Box Score

Stony Brook, N.Y. - A bases loaded infield single by senior Katelyn O'Donnell (Kingston, Mass.) proved to be the difference in Stony Brook University's softball team's 3-2 extra inning win against Maine on Saturday afternoon. The Seawolves lost game two, 9-1 (6). Junior Brijette Martin (New York, N.Y.) led the offense, going 4-for-7 on the day. Stony Brook is now 28-19-1 (9-7 America East).

The Black Bears jumped out to an early lead in game one behind a two-run homer from Terren Hall. Senior Alyssa Struzenberg (Cooper City, Fla.) would settle down after that, however, allowing just one more hit all game. She finished the game with nine strikeouts while issuing just one walk.

Stony Brook broke into the scoring column in the fifth inning. Senior Crista Cerrone (Floral Park, N.Y.) and O'Donnell put runners on first and third with a double and single, respectively. Senior Jade Clare (Federal Way, Wash.) then laid down a bunt to score Cerrone from third. The next batter, sophomore Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y.), hit a grounder to short which was deep enough to get O'Donnell home from third and tie the score at 2-2.

The score would remain that way until the eighth inning, when the Seawolves loaded the bases on a fielder's choice, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. With two outs, O'Donnell hit a slow roller between first and second, which pulled the first basemen away from the bag. Maine's second basemen fielded the ball, but O'Donnell was able to beat the first basemen to the bag allowing the run to score from third and giving SBU the win.

Stony Brook's lone run in game two came on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning by Clare.

The Seawolves will wrap-up their series with Maine tomorrow. First pitch is set from 11:00 a.m. Prior to the game's start, the Stony Brook athletic department will honor this year's senior class.
