Tropeano, Johnson Named To ABCA All-Northeast Region Team

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Sophomore right-handers Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.) and Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.) of the Stony Brook University baseball team have been named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Northeast Region team, the organization announced on Monday. Tropeano was one of four pitchers selected to the first team while Johnson earned a spot on the second team.

Named the America East Co-Pitcher of the Year, Tropeano went 8-4 with a 2.44 ERA, striking out an America East best 106 batters in 99.2 innings. The ERA mark ranked 24th in the country and his 6.86 hits allowed per nine innings ranked 17th.

Tropeano had the best ERA in the America East during conference play (1.29) and also led the conference in strikeouts per game (9.6) and innings per start (7.1). He also led the America East in complete games (seven) and was second in opponent batting average (.213).

Johnson went 10-3 with a 3.86 ERA in 14 starts, earning a spot on the All-America East first team. He went 6-1 with a 2.44 ERA during conference play and his 10 victories were a Stony Brook single-season record.

He also earned a spot on the All-Myrtle Beach Regional Tournament Team after allowing just two runs in 8.0 innings to lead the Seawolves to their first ever Division I NCAA Tournament win, a 6-2 victory over North Carolina State. Johnson also was selected to the America East All-Academic team.
