Cambridge, Mass. - Stony Brook football alum Alphonzo Grant '93 was featured by the America East in honor of Black History Month, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. In an effort to honor African-American alumni, the America East is profiling a prominent graduate from all nine member schools to celebrate the great history and success that African-American graduates from America East schools have had.

Following a successful career as a defensive end for the Stony Brook Patriots, Grant has emerged as a leading corporate lawyer for Sullivan and Cromwell LLP in New York. Grant serves as a litigation special counsel and is also a member of the Firm's Criminal Defense and Investigations Group. Grant has represented numerous clients in a variety of cases, including money laundering, tax fraud, terrorism, racketeering and narcotics.

The Brooklyn, N.Y. native has also focused his efforts on increasing diversity in his field. Grant is a member of the NYC Bar Association Enhance Diversity in the Profession Committee, and frequently speaks about law diversity and inclusion at his firm. Grant was previously a member of the NYC Bar Association Civil Rights Committee in 2000-01 and also served as the secretary of the NYC Bar Association Minorities in the Court Committee in 1998-99.

Grant earned a bachelor's degree from Stony Brook in 1993 and earned a Master of Professional Studies the following year, before earning a J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 1998.
