STONY BROOK, N.Y. - The Stony Brook football program has completed their 2026 spring season as they have all eyes on June 1st when they begin their "Third Quarter" summer sessions at LaValle Stadium.
We sat down with head coach
Billy Cosh to discuss the spring season and what Seawolves Nation can expect these next few months!
Q: Thoughts on the team so far after Spring Ball?
A: Young and hungry football team at the moment. We have a lot of unproven players who got opportunities to compete and improved throughout the duration of spring ball. I'm impressed with our team speed and overall physicality, but we have a lot of work ahead of us this summer.
Q: Any surprises or newcomers that stood out to you in Spring Ball?
A: We had a lot of guys really improve, but standouts were
Ryan Barrett and
Keiden Gutierrez. Both had strong camps and made a lot of splash plays.
Q: What were the main goals of Spring Ball? What was accomplished?
A: We had one main goal and that was to build toughness. We tackled in numerous practices and did a good job in our drill work to enhance that. Our guys understand that toughness travels.
Q: What are you guys doing to prepare for Summer Sessions?
A: We'll finish strong with exams in May and start June 1st with Quarter #3, which is our summer development phase. Players will have the opportunity to go home and spend time with family, and we've encouraged them to keep working out so they can hit the ground running when they return.
Q: What is your excitement level and thoughts about the Fall Season?
A: Super excited for sure, but we know there's a lot of work ahead of us to get to where we want to be. Summer is a great time for development, both in conditioning and in the weight room. We'll also have a lot of new faces this fall, so how we come together will be critical to our success.
Q: What can Seawolves Nation expect this upcoming season?
A: A team with grit. We have a lot to prove after two 3-point losses last season that could have changed the outcome of our year. The margin of error is slim in college athletics. It's now time to get after it and go prove it.
Q: What's your message to Seawolves Nation?
A: We went 5-1 at home last season, and we need that home-field advantage on Saturdays. Our organization works extremely hard, and we compete no matter the circumstances. We're excited for what's ahead and can't wait to see you this fall!
