Boca Raton, Fla. - Junior Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.) allowed just one run in 6.0 innings and junior Pat Cantwell's (West Islip, N.Y.) two-out RBI single in the seventh broke a 1-1 tie as the Stony Brook University baseball team defeated the Florida Atlantic Owls, 5-1, on Saturday at FAU Stadium.

Johnson (1-0) allowed five hits and struck out four in his 6.0 innings to earn the win. Cantwell had three hits in four at-bats and drove in two runs.

The teams entered the seventh tied 1-1 but freshman Joshua Mason (Woodland Hills, Calif.) reached second with one out on an FAU error and then moved to third on a groundout from freshman Kevin Courtney (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). Cantwell followed with a run-scoring single to give the Seawolves a 2-1 lead.

Sophomore William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) pushed the Stony Brook lead to 4-1 with a two-run home run in the eighth. SBU tacked on an insurance run in the ninth on an RBI double from Cantwell.

Freshman Bryan Tatelman (South Windsor, Conn.) allowed just one hit in 3.0 shutout innings of relief to earn the save. Jake Meiers took the loss for the Owls, giving up one earned run on five hits in 6.1 innings.

Stony Brook took a 1-0 lead in the fifth as Courtney doubled with one out and then came home on a run-scoring single from senior Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario). FAU tied it in the bottom of the inning on a Dan Scheffler RBI double.
