Baseball faces off against Iona on Thursday

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Looking for its sixth straight win, the Stony Brook University baseball team hosts the Iona Gaels on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. The game will played at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y. as renovations to Joe Nathan Field continue.

Last time out
Making his first career start, freshman Frankie Vanderka (Levittown, N.Y.) hurled 6.0 shutout innings to lead the Stony Brook University baseball team to a 3-1 win over Michigan on Sunday at the Bo Jangles Baseball Classic hosted by Winthrop University. SBU held on for a 10-9 win over the host Eagles in the second game of the day. The sweep of the doubleheader completed a perfect 4-0 weekend for the Seawolves at the Bo Jangles Classic.

Scouting Iona
The Gaels hold a 5-7 record entering the contest. Iona comes off a 5-4 loss to Temple on Sunday, which snapped a four-game winning streak. Iona was picked ninth in the MAAC preseason coaches poll.

Senior LHP Justin Wiley and freshman LHP Eddie Macaluso have anchored Iona's starting pitching with two wins apiece. Junior Chris Burke is hitting a team-best .395 and leads the Gaels in RBI (nine) and runs (10).
