Cambridge, Mass. -
Junior right-hander Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. It is the third time this season he has earned the honor.
Tropeano combined on a no-hitter with freshman Brandon McNitt (Woodland Hills, Calif.) on Sunday in the Seawolves 1-0 victory over Army. It was the second no-hitter in the last five games for Stony Brook, which got a no-hitter from freshman Frankie Vanderka (Levittown, N.Y.) on March 18 against NJIT.
Tropeano threw 6.0 perfect innings against Army, striking out seven. The preseason All-American is 4-1 with a 1.38 ERA in five starts this season.
Stony Brook has won 10 of its last 11 games and is ranked No. 23 in College Baseball Daily's latest mid-major poll.
