Stony Brook University's baseball team had six players record two or more RBI as the Seawolves routed Fairleigh Dickinson, 16-7, in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. Sophomore William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) led Stony Brook with three hits and three RBI.
The Seawolves totaled a season-high 17 hits and drew eight walks. Senior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and junior Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.) added three hits each for SBU. Sophomore Jasvir Rakkar (Brampton, Ontario) allowed one run in 3.0 innings of relief to earn the win.
FDU jumper to a 4-0 lead with a run in the second and then three in the third on a two-run home run from Eric Anderson and a solo shot from Brian Dillon. But the Seawolves rallied for five runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by two-run singles from sophomore Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) and freshman Kevin Courtney (Lindenhurst, N.Y.).
Stony Brook added two runs in the fourth before putting the game away with five more runs in the fifth. Carmona had the big hit in the fifth, drilling a two-run double off the left-field fence.
Sophomore Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) chipped in with a two-run home run in the eighth. Mike Eliasen took the loss for FDU, allowing seven runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings.
The Seawolves return to action this weekend, taking on Michigan and Winthrop this weekend at the Bo Jangles Baseball Classic in Rock Hill, S.C.
