McNitt also earned the win in the completion of Saturday's suspended game, an 8-7 Stony Brook victory.
Maine won the opening game of the doubleheader, 7-3. Stony Brook took three of four from the Black Bears in the weekend series and are 19-8 overall and 3-1 in the America East. The teams played Saturday's games at Dowling College and Sunday's games at Adelphi University as renovations to Stony Brook's Joe Nathan Field continue.
Saturday's game was suspended due to darkness with the score tied, 7-7. The teams picked up the action in the top of the 11th inning on Sunday prior to the day's scheduled doubleheader.
McNitt, who had not pitched on Saturday, came on to pitch for the Seawolves and pitched a scoreless 11th and 12th inning. Stony Brook then loaded the bases with one out in the 12th for sophomore Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario).
The Seawolves then executed a perfect suicide squeeze, with junior Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.) coming across with the winning run as Tissenbaum laid down a perfect bunt up the third base line. McNitt allowed just six hits and two walks in his 9.0 innings on Sunday.
Stony Brook grabbed an early lead in the final game of the day, scoring two runs in the first on a Tissenbaum two-run single. SBU then broke the game open with five runs in the fifth, all with two out.
Cantwell reached on fielder's choice with two outs and then moved to second on an infield single from senior Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario). Sophomore William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) followed with a booming two-run double to center to make it 4-0.
Tissenbaum then doubled in Carmona and senior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) capped the inning with a two-run home run to left.
In the first game of Sunday's scheduled doubleheader, Maine scored two runs in the first and then added three runs in the second highlighted by a Joey Martin two-run single. Stony Brook crept within 5-3 in the sixth on a Tissenbaum RBI double and a Marino RBI groundout.
But added an insurance run in the sixth and then pushed its lead to 7-3 in the seventh on Justin Leisenheimer home run. Keith Bilodeau earned the win for the Black Bears, going all 7.0 innings.
The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, traveling to take on Central Connecticut State. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
