Sophomores Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) and William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) each recorded two hits but the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Stony Brook University baseball team on Thursday at CCSU Field.
Freshman Josh Barry (Seaford, N.Y.) pitched 2.0 perfect innings for the Seawolves while freshman Bryan Tateleman (South Windsor, Conn.) tossed 1.1 scoreless innings. Sophomore Adam Brown (Melville, N.Y.) took the loss for SBU, allowing three runs in 1.2 innings.
Stony Brook (19-9) scored two runs in the first on a sacrifice fly from senior Chad Marshall (Paris, Ontario) and an RBI single from senior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.). But CCSU tied it with two runs in the bottom of the first.
The Seawolves regained the lead in the third on an RBI double from Tissenbaum but the Blue Devils once again had an answer, tying on the game on a J.P. Sportman run-scoring single in the bottom of the inning.
An RBI groundout from freshman Kevin Courtney (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) in the fourth gave SBU a 4-3 advantage but CCSU took their first lead of the game in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run home run from Anthony Turgeon.
Stony Brook was unable to push a runner past second the rest of the way as the Blue Devils hung on for the victory. Todd Savatsky earned the victory for CCSU, allowing four runs on eight hits in 7.0 innings.
The Seawolves return to action this weekend, hosting UMBC for a three-game series. The games will be played in Old Westbury at New York Tech as renovations to Joe Nathan Field continue.
