LIVE STATS: Game One | Game Two
Piscataway, N.J. - The Stony Brook softball team will pause from conference action this week when it travels to Rutgers on Tuesday for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. The team also announced that it will make up the home doubleheader against Iona on Thursday beginning at 12 p.m.
The Seawolves (13-21) are coming off a tough weekend in Hartford, during which the team outhit the Hawks in each game, but managed to win only once. Sophomore Taylor Chain (Gloucester, N.J.) pitched the visitors to a 2-1 win on Saturday with a complete-game, seven-strikeout effort. Senior Colleen Matthes (Severn, Md.) was extremely effective on Sunday as she came on in relief of Chain and set down 16 straight batters; however, the team could not climb out of an early four-run hole in a 4-3 defeat.
Junior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) continues to lead the team at the dish, hitting at a .350 clip with a team-high 15 RBI. Tenuto has three home runs this year after hitting just one long-ball in her two previous years at Stony Brook. Freshman Elise Fortier (Coventry, R.I.), a two-time America East Rookie of the Week, also owns three home runs in 2011.
Rutgers (18-22) has won five of its last six games entering Tuesday, including a 3-1 mark against Providence and Seton Hall, a pair of teams the Seawolves have already faced this season. Brittney Lindley has enjoyed a tremendous campaign thus far with a .440 average, 10 home runs and 38 RBI. Lindley is one of five Scarlet Knight players who have at least 20 RBI.
Following the doubleheader at Rutgers on Tuesday, the Seawolves will return home to make up their doubleheader against Iona on Thursday. The games were previously scheduled for March 31, but were postponed due to inclement weather. Stony Brook will wrap up the week with a trip to Rider on Sunday.
