Old Westbury, N.Y. - Junior Nick Tropeano (West Islip, N.Y.) hurled a four-hit shutout, striking out a career-high 14 batters, to lead the Stony Brook University baseball team to a 6-0 victory over New York Tech in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. Junior Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.) allowed just an unearned run in 7.0 innings to lead SBU to a 10-1 win in game two.

Sophomore Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) drove in a career-high five runs in the Seawolves game two win. SBU has won 13 of its last 14 and is now 15-5 on the season.

Tropeano (4-1) walked just one in the seven-inning first game and struck out two in the final inning to eclipse his previous career-high of 13 strikeouts which he set last season against Iona. Stony Brook has not allowed an earned run over its last 44.0 innings.

Stony Brook jumped to an early lead in game one, scoring two in the second on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) and an RBI double from freshman Kevin Courtney (Lindenhurst, N.Y.). SBU then put the game away with four runs in the sixth, highlighted by a two-run double from Jankowski.

Tropeano, meanwhile, cruised through the Bear lineup as he allowed just two runners to reach third base. Senior Stephen Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y) added two hits and an RBI for Stony Brook and finished the doubleheader with five hits in nine at-bats.

SBU took control of game two early as well, scoring two runs in the first on two-run single from Tissenbaum. Each team scored an unearned run in the fourth before Stony Brook scored three runs in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.

The Seawolves added some insurance in the seventh on a Tissenbaum two-run home run to right. Johnson (4-2) gave up just five hits and struck out seven.

The teams wrap up the four-game series with a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
