Box Score

Baltimore, Md. - Freshman Brandon McNitt (Chino Hills, Calif.) tossed 7.0 shutout innings and sophomore Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.) drove in four runs as the Stony Brook University baseball team completed a three-game sweep of the UMBC Retrievers with a 13-2 win on Saturday at the Baseball Factory Field.

McNitt (5-1) struck out six and scattered six over his 7.0 innings in addition to not walking a batter. Sophomore Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario) went 4-for-5 with three RBI for the Seawolves (26-9, 9-1 AE), who are off to their best ever America East start and their best overall start since jumping to Division I.

Stony Brook again jumped to an early lead, scoring three in the second highlighted by a two-run triple from Jankowski. The Seawolves added a run in the third on an RBI triple from Nivins.

SBU blew it open with five runs in the fifth. Nivins and freshmen Kevin Courtney (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) and Joshua Mason (Woodland Hills, Calif.) each had run-scoring hits in the inning.

McNitt, meanwhile, cruised as he allowed just one UMBC baserunner to reach third. Stony Brook had 18 hits on Saturday and scored 30 runs in the three-game sweep of the Retrievers.

The Seawolves return to action on Tuesday, traveling to take on Fairleigh Dickinson. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
