Cambridge, Mass. -
Sophomore outfielder Tanner Nivins (Kitchener, Ontario), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named America East Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. It is the second straight week he has earned the honor.
Nivins hit .500 (7-for-14) last week, leading the Seawolves to a three-game sweep of UMBC and a midweek victory over Rhode Island. He went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored in the win over URI and then had four hits and three RBI in the series finale against UMBC.
Nivins is 10th in the America East in hitting (.317) and has 12 doubles and 26 RBI. He also ranks sixth in the conference with a .483 slugging percentage.
Stony Brook (26-9, 9-1 AE) is off to its best ever America East start and its best overall start since jumping to Division I in 2000.
