Johnson named America East Pitcher of the Week

May 2, 2011

Cambridge, Mass. - Junior right-hander Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. It is the second time this season Johnson has earned the honor and the eighth time this season an SBU pitcher has won the award.

Johnson (7-2) tossed a four-hit shutout in the Seawolves 6-0 victory over Binghamton on Saturday. He did walk a batter and struck out five and has now thrown 18.0 consecutive scoreless innings.

Johnson has thrown 56.2 innings this season and is third in the America East with a 1.91 ERA. Stony Brook (30-10, 11-2) has won 11 of its past 12 games and on Saturday the Seawolves hit the 30 win plateau for the third time in the last four seasons and the ninth time under head coach Matt Senk.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, traveling to take on Marist. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
