Cambridge, Mass. -
Junior right-hander Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, has been named America East Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. It is the third time this season that Johnson has earned the honor.
Johnson (9-2) allowed just two hits in 7.0 shutout innings in the Seawolves 6-0 victory over Albany on Friday. He has allowed just one earned run over his last 32.0 innings and has struck out 27 and walked just one over that span.
Johnson finished the regular season with the top ERA in the America East (1.66) and went 5-0 with a 0.95 ERA in six conference starts. Stony Brook (41-10, 22-2 AE) swept Albany over the weekend to clinch its first ever America East regular season title. SBU has won 11 straight and 22 of their last 23.
The Seawolves will attempt to win their second straight conference championship this week, hosting the 2011 America East Baseball Championship at Joe Nathan Field from May 25-28.
Top-seeded Stony Brook will open the four-team double-elimination tournament against No. 4 Albany on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
