Game Two Box Score

South Orange, N.J. - Freshman Alex Clark (Warsaw, Va.) hurled a complete-game shutout as the Seawolves silenced Seton Hall, 6-0, in the first game of a doubleheader in South Orange, N.J. The Pirates battled back to take game two, 4-0, to earn the split.

Stony Brook (20-26) scored all six of its runs in the first two innings of game one, staking Clark to a big lead. Junior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the first to score junior Alyssa Hawley (Spokane, Wash.) to make it 1-0.

The Seawolves then capitalized on a pair of Seton Hall (16-33) errors to blow open the game in the second. After junior Lauren Maloney (Las Vegas, Nev.) knocked in a run to make it 2-0, sophomore Gina Bianculli (Oakdale, N.Y.) and freshman Elise Fortier (Coventry, R.I.) came around to score on a throwing error by the Pirates' shortstop. Freshman Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) then came through with an RBI single to plate Maloney, before Hawley added a sixth run courtesy of another error in the field by the hosts.

Clark was effective from the outset and limited Seton Hall to seven hits, while striking out five en route to her second victory in a Seawolves uniform.

The Pirates struck back in game two, holding the Seawolves to just six hits. Stony Brook had ample chances to score, putting runners in scoring position in each of the final four innings, but could not find a way to break through on the scoreboard. Seton Hall scored its first run in the second and tacked on three more in the sixth to round out the scoring.

Senior Colleen Matthes (Severn, Md.), the reigning America East Co-Pitcher of the Week, took the loss in game two, despite striking out four and allowing only seven hits.

The Seawolves will wrap up the 2011 season this weekend when they travel to Albany for a three-game series beginning Saturday at 1 p.m.
