Game Two Box Score

Albany, N.Y. - The Stony Brook softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at Albany on Saturday, falling by scores of 5-2 and 7-0. Freshman Elise Fortier (Coventry, R.I.) knocked in both runs on the day.

The Great Danes (24-21, 13-4 America East) scored the first five runs in game one, before the Seawolves (20-28, 5-12 America East) spoiled the shutout in the top of the sixth. With the bases loaded and two out, Fortier slapped a single into center field to bring in freshman Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) and junior Alyssa Hawley (Spokane, Wash.). After a wild pitch, the Seawolves had runners at second and third, but pitcher Brittany Schweiger induced a pop-up to end the threat.

Senior Colleen Matthes (Severn, Md.) took the loss in game one, despite allowing only two hits in two and a third innings pitched. Matthes struck out two and was was responsible for four earned runs.

Offensively, Stony Brook produced six hits (all singles) in the opening game, including two apiece from Hawley and freshman Nicole Schieferstein (Seaford, N.Y.).

In game two, Albany hurler Brittany MacFawn limited the Seawolves to five hits over seven shutout innings, while striking out six. Stony Brook starter Alexandra Clark (Warsaw, Va.) held the Great Danes to just one run through four innings, but came undone in the fifth as the hosts plated six runs to open up a commanding 7-0 lead.

Stony Brook was led by junior Lauren Maloney (Las Vegas, Nev.), who went 2-for-3 in game two. Junior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.), junior Suzanne Karath (Fishkill, N.Y.) and Fortier accounted for the other three Stony Brook hits in the second game.

The Seawolves will wrap up the 2011 season tomorrow at Albany at 12 p.m.
