Durham, N.H. - The Stony Brook women's soccer team will look to clinch a spot in the America East playoffs on Thursday when it travels to Durham, N.H. for a matchup against the Wildcats at 3 p.m. The Seawolves currently sit fifth in the conference standings with two matches remaining.
Stony Brook
The Seawolves (8-5-3, 2-3-1 America East) will be looking to build off a win and a draw last week against Maine and UMBC, respectively. Junior Larissa Nysch (Dresher, Pa.) scored a brace against the Black Bears and was named the America East Player of the Week on Monday as a result. Nysch leads the team with six goals and 15 points in 16 games this season. Senior Sa'sha Kershaw (Baltimore, Md.) also netted a big goal last week as her second-half penalty kick helped the Seawolves earn a 1-1 draw at UMBC on Sunday.
New Hampshire
The Wildcats (5-9-2, 3-2-1 America East) currently sit third in the conference standings with 10 points. Last week, UNH knocked off Albany on the road, 1-0, but fell at Maine by a 2-1 score. New Hampshire has struggled offensively this season, ranking eighth in the America East with 16 goals in 16 games. Much of the team's offense comes from Rookie of the Year candidate Kirstyn Corder (five goals) and sophomore Meghan Ledwith (four goals). Junior Erica Correa is UNH's primary netminder with 15 starts and a 1.46 GAA.
Around the League
With two matches remaining in the regular season, Stony Brook can still finish as high as second and as low as eighth in the standings. Maine (10 points), currently in second place, hosts Albany (6 points) on Thursday and has a bye on Sunday, meaning it can finish with no more than 13 points. First-place Hartford (15 points) travels to Vermont (7 points) tomorrow, before taking on the Seawolves on Sunday. The Hawks would wrap up first place in the America East with a win in either game.
