Stony Brook - Stony Brook softball head coach Megan Bryant announced the hiring of Amber Flores as an assistant coach on Wednesday. Flores will primarily serve as the team's hitting and outfield coach and will assist with all aspects of the program.
"Amber Flores is an incredible addition to our staff and we are thrilled that she has decided to join us here at Stony Brook," Bryant said. "She is a quality person who possesses the dedication, drive, love of the game and teaching skills necessary to be a successful coach."
Flores was previously a three-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma, where she became the first-ever two-time Big-12 Player of the Year. The Calexico, Calif. native set numerous program records with the Sooners, including career home runs (56), walks (163), extra-base hits (99), slugging percentage (.701) and on-base percentage (.524). In addition, Flores was a three-time finalist for USA Softball's Collegiate Player of the Year. Flores was selected fifth overall in the 2010 National Pro Fastpitch draft by the USSSA Pride.
"Amber learned so much at the University of Oklahoma– about the game of softball, about competing and about the game of life– and she will be a terrific teacher and role model for our student-athletes," Bryant added. "Amber was not only one of the greatest players in the history of Division I softball, she learned her craft from some of the best coaches in the college game. Without question, she will have an immediate impact on our recruiting efforts as well."
Flores earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Oklahoma in 2010.
