Johnson, Carmona earn weekly conference honors

March 12, 2012

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior right-hander Tyler Johnson and junior third baseman William Carmona, of the Stony Brook baseball team, each earned weekly conference honors, the conference office announced on Monday. Johnson was named Pitcher of the Week while Carmona was chosen as the Player of the Week.

Johnson hurled 8.0 shutout innings in the Seawolves 4-0 victory over Kansas on Friday. The right-hander allowed just three hits, walked one and struck at seven.

It was the 25th career victory for Johnson, tying him with Jon Lewis '05 for the most in program history. Johnson has a 0.82 ERA in three starts this season.

Carmona hit two home runs in the Seawolves 5-4 victory over Minnesota including a solo shot to lead off the seventh that broke a 4-4 tie. He then threw a scoreless ninth to cap off the victory and pick up the save.

Carmona also hit a three-run home run in the Seawolves 17-5 mid-week victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. He leads the America East with four home runs.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday in their home opener against Iona. First pitch from Joe Nathan Field is set for 3:30 p.m.
