Baseball hosts Yale for doubleheader Friday

Stony Brook, N.Y. - The Stony Brook baseball team returns to action on Friday, hosting the Yale Bulldogs for a doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. The teams will complete the four-game set with a doubleheader at Yale Field on Saturday.

Last Time Out: Freshman Steven Goldstein had two hits and three RBI and drove in the go-ahead run in a five-run eighth to lead the Stony Brook baseball team to a 12-7 victory over the Iona Gaels in its home opener on Wednesday at Joe Nathan Field. Junior Travis Jankowski and freshman Kevin Krause added three hits each while junior William Carmona had two hits and two RBI. Freshman Nick Brass (1-0) threw a scoreless eighth to pick up his first career victory.

Seawolves News & Notes: Senior right-hander Tyler Johnson was selected America East Pitcher of the Week on Monday after tossing 8.0 shutout innings in the Seawolves 4-0 victory over Kansas on Friday ... it was the 25th career win for Johnson, tying him with Jon Lewis `05 for the most wins in program history ... Johnson has an 0.82 ERA in three starts this season ... the Seawolves team ERA of 2.36 entering this week ranked 12th in the nation ... senior catcher Pat Cantwell has been named a candidate for the Johnny Bench award, which is given annually to the top catcher in college baseball.

Scouting Yale: The Bulldogs are coming off a 9-3 win over Lafayette which snapped a three-game losing streak. Sophomore Cale Hanson is hitting a team-best .368 for the Bulldogs, who are averaging 4.1 runs per game. The Yale pitching staff is allowing almost eight runs per contest.
