Cukrov earns third straight AE weekly honor

March 19, 2012

Cambridge, Mass. - Freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) of the Stony Brook softball team was named the America East Rookie of the Week on Monday, just three days after she threw her first-career no-hitter. Cukrov has now picked up conference honors in three straight weeks after being named Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 5 and Mar. 12.

Cukrov dominated on Saturday against Holy Cross, striking out 10 batters and holding the Crusaders without a hit. The freshman allowed only two baserunners in the game as the Seawolves coasted to a 7-0 victory.

Cukrov also tossed a complete-game against Big 12 foe Texas Tech on Wednesday, giving up two earned runs and striking out five in a 4-1 defeat. For the week, Cukrov recorded a 1.00 ERA with 15 strikeouts and just three walks in 14 innings pitched.

The Irvine, Calif. native has given up two earned runs or less in seven of her last eight starts and 10 of her 11 appearances overall. Cukrov is the second Seawolf to garner Rookie of the Week honors this year after Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) took home the award last week.

Stony Brook returns to action Wednesday for a doubleheader at Fairfield at 2 p.m.
