Box Score

Washington, D.C. - Freshman Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) struck out 10 batters en route to her first collegiate win as the Stony Brook softball team dispatched Siena, 5-2, at the Colonial Classic on Friday in Washington, D.C.

Cukrov limited the Saints (0-1) to just five hits over seven innings, walking none, while the Seawolves' (3-2) bats gave her an offensive cushion on the scoreboard.

Stony Brook struck for three runs in the bottom of the third to break a scoreless tie. Senior Lauren Maloney (Las Vegas, Nev.) sliced a two-out single into center field to bring in two runs, before senior Bernadette Tenuto (Audubon, N.J.) plated Maloney with a double to left.

Freshman Lauren Kamachi (Surrey, British Columbia) then tacked on another run with a solo home run, her first collegiate homer, to lead off the fourth. Another freshman, Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) accounted for the Seawolves' fifth run of the game later in the inning with a bases-loaded fielder's choice, scoring sophomore Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.).

Junior Gina Bianculli (Oakdale, N.Y.) raised her team-leading batting average to .357 (5-for-14) on the season with a pair of hits off Siena starter Jessika-Jo Sandrini. Maloney finished 1-for-3 with two RBI and two stolen bases.

Stony Brook's second game of the day against Robert Morris was postponed due to weather in the D.C. area. The Seawolves are scheduled to return to action Saturday against Buffalo at 9 a.m.
