Series Preview: Stony Brook heads to Minneapolis for the University of Minnesota's Dairy Queen Classic. The Seawolves play two games each against Kansas and the host Golden Gophers. All games will be played the Metrodome, the former home of the Minnesota Twins. 

Last time out: The Stony Brook University baseball team pounded out 16 hits and scored seven runs in both the fourth and fifth on its way to a 17-5 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday afternoon. Junior Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) hit a grand slam and junior William Carmona(Hempstead, N.Y.) also homered to lead the SBU offense. The Seawolves (5-3) had 12 different players record a hit as they set season-highs for hits and runs. Senior Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.) had two hits and scored three runs while freshman Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) had two hits and two RBI. Freshman right-hander Matt Gallup (Albany, N.Y.) allowed one hit in 2.0 scoreless innings to pick up the victory.

Scouting Kansas: The Jayhawks are coming off a 12-9 loss to North Dakota on Wednesday, its fourth loss in the last five games. The Seawolves face southpaw Wes Benjamin in the opener Friday. Benjamin is 1-1 with a 3.06 ERA in three starts. Thomas Taylor will throw against SBU in the second game on Friday. Taylor is 1-1 with a 2.29 ERA in three starts this season. The Jayhawks return 17 letterwinners, including six position starters, from last year's team which finished 26-30 overall and 9-18 in the Big 12 Conference. 

Scouting Minnesota: The Golden Gophers are coming off a 3-2 16-inning win over Hamline University on Wednesday. UM has won three of four following a three-game losing streak. Right-hander TJ Oakes takes the hill against the Seawolves on Saturday. Oakes is 3-0 with 0.49 ERA in three starts and has allowed just 10 hits in 18.1 innings. Stony Brook then faces Austin Lubinsky in the final game of the Classic on Sunday. Lubinsky is 0-2 with a 7.71 ERA in three starts. Minnesota returns 20 letterwinners including five positions starters from last year's team that went 25-24 and finished fourth in the conference standings.
