Carmona, Peragine earn weekly conference honors

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) and freshman Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario), of the Stony Brook University baseball team, were each honored when the America East announced its weekly awards Monday. Carmona was named Player of the Week and Peragine Rookie of the Week.

The duo led the Seawolves to wins in five of six games last week including three of four from Albany over the weekend. Stony Brook (24-10, 5-2 AE) has won 10 of its last 12 contests.

Carmona hit .571 with 12 RBI last week, driving in four runs in twice in the Albany series. He had five extra-base hits including his career-best seventh home run of the season.

Carmona is hitting .368 overall and leads the America East in home runs and RBI (35). He is hitting .560 (14-for-25) with 11 RBI through two conference weekends.

Peragine hit .526 last week and drove in eight runs. He has started 33 games at shortstop this season and is hitting .302 in addition to being third on the team with 22 RBI.

The Seawolves return to action on Wednesday, hosting Rhode Island at Joe Nathan Field.
