Jankowski named to Golden Spikes Midseason Watch List

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Travis Jankowski(Lancaster, Pa.), of the Stony Brook University baseball team has been named to the 2012 Golden Spikes Award midseason 60-man watch list, USA baseball announced on Tuesday. The Golden Spikes award is presented annually to the top amateur baseball player in the country.

Jankowski leads the America East in hitting at .390 and leads the nation in triples (nine) The MVP of the 2011 Cape Cod Summer League, Jankowski also ranks eighth in the nation in stolen bases (29) and is 14th in runs scored (49).

It is the second straight season that a Stony Brook player has been named to the Golden Spikes midseason 60-man watch list. Former Seawolves All-Americn Nick Tropeanowas named to the 2011 midseason watch list and was eventually drafted in the fifth round by the Houston Astros.

Since 1978, USA Baseball has honored the top amateur baseball player in the country with the Golden Spikes Award. The award is sponsored by Major League Baseball and presented each year to the player who best exhibits exceptional on-field ability and exemplary sportsmanship. 

The 2012 Seawolves (34-10, 12-2 AE) are in first place in the America East and have won 10 in a row and 20 of their last 22.
