Stony Brook, N.Y. - Former Stony Brook women's soccer standout Brooke Barbuto '09 is enjoying a standout season with the Finnish pro club team GBK, which is based in Kokkola, Finland. As the team's starting center mid, Barbuto has six goals and two assists in four games so far this season.
With Barbuto pulling the strings in the middle of the field, GBK (Gamlakarleby Bollklubb) is off to a 4-0 start this season. Barbuto previously played professionally for Haukar in Iceland in 2011.
One of the best players in program history, Barbuto was a two-time All-America East first team honoree and a three-time NSCAA All-Northeast Region selection.
She closed her brilliant four-year Stony Brook career in style in 2008, tying a career-high with six goals in addition to posting a career-high six assists. The Syracuse, N.Y. native also captained the Seawolves to the America East title game as a senior in 2008, the team's first appearance in the championship match since 2002.
