Krause, Peragine named to NCBWA Freshman All-American Team

June 11, 2012

Lynchburg, Va. - Standout freshmen Kevin Krause (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) of the Stony Brook baseball team were named 2012 NCBWA Division I Freshman All-Americans, as announced Monday. Krause was named to the first team in the DH slot, while Peragine was named to the second team at shortstop.

Krause is hiting .335 and has seen action in 59 games this season. The Staten Island, N.Y. native has three home runs and 40 RBI in 2012 and had a pair of run-scoring singles in Sunday's series-clinching 7-2 victory over LSU.

The 2012 America East Rookie of the Year, Peragine is hitting .314 with 39 RBI in 64 games. The Belle Ewart, Ontario native has six triples and 42 runs scored to go along with eight stolen bases.

Stony Brook (52-13) shocked the world by defeating SEC powerhouse LSU in a deciding game three of the NCAA Super Regionals. The Tigers won the first game, 5-4, forcing the Seawolves to win two straight contests at hostile Alex Box Stadium in Baton Rouge, La. Stony Brook responded with a pair of dominant performances in games two and three to clinch an improbable berth in the College World Series.
