Men's hoops downed by Hartford 60-55

Feb. 10, 2013

Final Stats

West Hartford, Conn. - Hartford connected on 10 three-pointers, including seven in the second half, to erase a nine-point deficit and beat the Stony Brook men's basketball team 60-55 Sunday afternoon at Chase Family Arena. Freshman Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) led Stony Brook with 21 points.

The loss snaps Stony Brook's four-game winning streak and drops the Seawolves to 17-6 overall and 8-2 in America East.

Sunday's game had been rescheduled from Saturday night after this weekend's blizzard that hit the Northeast Region prevented safe travel.

Coach Steve Pikiell's Reaction
"Give credit to Hartford; they played well for 40 minutes tonight. They made shots, and we didn't play enough defense or make our free throws tonight. We'll move on and get ready for Binghamton on Tuesday."

Turning Point
Stony Brook led Hartford 39-30 in the second half when the Hawks heated up from outside and the Seawolves went cold altogether. The Hawks tied the game with back-to-back-to-back three-pointers.

Stony Brook led 45-44 when Hartford's Mark Nwakamma put the Hawks in front with seven straight points of his own. His three-pointer at 6:01 of the second half gave the Hawks a 51-45 advantage.

The Seawolves came within two at 53-51 after junior Anthony Jackson (Columbus, Ohio) drained a three-pointer at 2:51, but Hartford's Nate Sikma sealed Stony Brook's fate with a three-pointer come back down at 2:14 to make it a five-point game again.
