Stony Brook, N.Y. - Before the Stony Brook baseball team heads to Hartford for a three-game showdown with major playoff implications, the Seawolves will close out the home and non-conference portions of their schedule with a matchup against the Sacred Heart Pioneers on Wednesday. The game time has been changed to 11 a.m.
The Seawolves have won nine of their last 13 games, riding a hot streak that has them in position to qualify for the America East Championship for the eighth consecutive season, which would be the longest active streak of any member institution. The team needs to defeat Hartford in twice during its upcoming three-game series to earn the berth.
On Wednesday, Stony Brook will be facing a Pioneers squad that has won eight straight games. Sacred Heart is 28-21 overall and 23-9 in the NEC. The team will be crowned NEC regular season champion if Bryant loses all four of its games at Wagner this weekend. Otherwise, the Pioneers will finish second and earn the No. 2 seed in the NEC Championship. Sacred Heart is led by senior shortstop John Murphy, who is hitting .366 with four home runs and 40 RBI this season. Twenty-three of his 63 hits this year have gone for extra bases.
