#Seawolves drop non-conference game at Fairfield

April 3, 2014

Final Stats

Fairfield, Conn. - Despite an outstanding pitching performance from sophomore Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.), the Stony Brook softball team lost at Fairfield, 2-0, Thursday afternoon.

Sallen gave up two hits and two runs, both unearned, in five innings.

Head Coach Megan Bryant's Reaction
"Our pitchers did a great job of giving us a chance to win.  Offensively, it was a disappointing game for us.  We didn't make adjustments or play to our strengths."

Recap
The Seawolves had a runner in scoring position in the first and second, but didn't score. In the second inning, junior Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) singled and stole second. Sophomore Kat Zabielski (Farmingdale, N.Y.) followed with a single through the left side to put runners on the corners with one out. Fairfield starter Lauren Falkanger retired the next two batters to end the threat.

Fairfield scored two runs in the third. It could have been worse but sophomore Melissa Phelan (Saddle Brook, N.J) and Jessica Combs (Hammonton, N.J.) ended the threat by erasing Kristen Filicia at home.

In the sixth inning, Phelan doubled with two outs, but was left stranded.

Stony Brook had the go-ahead run at the plate in the seventh. With runners on second and third and two out, junior Lauren Kamachi (Surrey, British Columbia), pinch hitting for sophomore Kellie Reynolds (Paso Robles, Calif.), struck out to end the game.
