Stony Brook, N.Y. - Former University of Oregon linebacker Rahim Cassell (Lakewood, Calif.) has accepted a grant-in-aid offer and will join the Stony Brook football team for the 2014 season.

Cassell, who redshirted as a freshman in 2011, will have two years of eligibility left. He will wear No. 7 for the Seawolves.

"We're excited that Rahim has chosen to continue his education at Stony Brook," head coach Chuck Priore said. "Obviously, Rahim has a lot of ability as evident by his success in the Pac-12. We look forward to his contributions as a person and a player to the team."

Cassell played in all 13 games in 2013, serving as the Ducks' second-string middle linebacker. He finished the season with 32 tackles, including 13 solo stops, and made a career-high six tackles against Stanford.

The 6-1, 225-lb Cassell posted tackles for loss against Oregon State and Texas. His fumble recovery against Nicholls State helped Oregon to the victory.

As a redshirt freshman in 2012, Cassell recorded 19 tackles.

A consensus three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, Scout.com, ESPN and 247Sports.com, Cassell was ranked as the No. 30 outside linebacker by ESPN.

As a senior at Lakewood High School, he tallied 55 tackles, a sack and a forced fumble as Rivals ranked Cassell the No. 85 prep recruit in California.

Cassell, who earned first team All-Moore League, helped the Lancers reach the second round of the CIF Southern Section Pac-5.
