Ryan inducted into Northport Athletic Hall of Fame

Sept. 25, 2014

Northport, N.Y. - Women’s soccer head coach Sue Ryan was elected to the Northport-East Northport Inaugural Athletic Hall of Fame Class on Saturday, Sep. 20, joining a 12-member class consisting of two former major-league baseball players and two ex-NFL players.

It has been a busy year for Ryan, who was also inducted into the Long Island Hall of Fame in March. Ryan, who is in her 30th season as Stony Brook head coach, led the #Seawolves to an America East Championship in 2012 and a regular-season title in 2013. She is one of only a few female coaches to have earned a U.S. Soccer Federation “A” license as well as National and Advanced licenses from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. In addition to her duties with the Seawolves, she has also served as an assistant coach for the U-17 U.S. Women’s National Team and is a member of the U.S. National Team scouting staff.

Former major league baseball players Bobby Wine and Robert Chipman, and NFL players, Craig McEwan and Frank Ahrenhold were other notable figures to be recognized with Ryan last Saturday. McEwan won a Super Bowl with the Redskins in 1987.
