Scouting UMass Lowell
The River Hawks appear much improved from last year’s squad, which went 1-16-1. Through nine games, they have already eclipsed their 2013 win total with three and have registered two clean sheets, despite having one all of last year. UMass Lowell enters Sunday’s match riding momentum from a 1-0 victory over St. Bonaventure in its last game. Taylor Chianese leads the team with three goals, Sarah Raye is second with two, and Shannon Groffie leads with three assists.
Last Meeting
Stony Brook and UMass Lowell women’s soccer teams met for the first time in history in 2013, with the Seawolves squeaking out a 1-0 victory on a goal from Larissa Nysch. The game was more lopsided than the final scoreline as Stony Brook outshot the River Hawks 20-8.
Helping Hand
Junior Tessa Devereaux (Fayetteville, N.Y.) is second in the America East in assists with four, trailing UMBC’s Lisa Nanov by one. With two assists in the Seawolves win over Fordham, Devereaux moved into solo eighth place on Stony Brook’s all-time career assist list with 13.
Balanced Scoring
Stony Brook is getting contributions from many different places. Nine players have recorded at least a point this year with eight Seawolves having scored a goal. Devereaux, redshirt sophomore Raven Edwards (West Orange, N.J.) and freshman Maddie Good (Palmyra, Pa.) are tied for the team lead in points with six apiece. Edwards leads the team with three goals.
