Storrs, Conn. - The Stony Brook women’s soccer team (2-3) will be the third Stony Brook team to face the Connecticut Huskies (3-1-1) in the last seven days when they head to Storrs, Conn. for a 3 p.m. kickoff. The men’s soccer team played at UConn last Sunday and the football team plays the Huskies today.

Scouting UConn

The Huskies went 11-9 a season ago and have enough returning firepower to be selected second out of nine teams in the American Athletic Conference preseason poll. Sophomore forward Rachel Hill is one of the most dangerous players in the country. After a 13 goal and five assist freshman campaign, Hill was selected by the U20 women’s national team and competed this summer in the U20 FIFA World Cup. The preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Hill has lived up to the lofty expectations bestowed on her by scoring three goals through the team’s first four games. Sophomore Emily Hill was voted the conference preseason Goalkeeper of the Year after she posted an 11-9 record with 68 saves and six shutouts as a freshman. The Huskies only loss this season came at No. 8 Penn State.

Even Steven

Through five games the Seawolves have taken the exact same amount of shots as their opponents (72). Interestingly, Stony Brook has dominated play in the first half of game, outshooting its opponents 43-27, but tides have turned in the second half of games, with its opponents holding a 45-29 advantage in shots in the final 45 minutes.

It’s Good to be Good

Freshman Maddie Good’s (Palmyra, Pa.) collegiate career is off to a fast start. With an assist against Seton Hall, the forward is tied for second on the team in points with three after a goal and an assist. Her only goal was a game-winner against Delaware State back on Aug. 24.
