Orono, Maine - Charlene Achille scored two second half goals to lift the Maine Black Bears over the Stony Brook women's soccer team (6-8-3, 3-3-1) on Thursday night by a score of 2-0. Stony Brook still controls its own fate; a win or tie vs. UMBC in its regular-season finale on Sunday will secure a playoff spot.
Highlights
- The Seawolves controlled large chunks of play in the first half. Senior Emily Murrer (Aptos, Calif.) had the best chance of the night, ripping a right-footed shot that was pawed away by the keeper.
- Charlene Achille opened the scoring in the 69th minute, converting from a corner kick.
- Achille added her second of the night in the 81st minute, belting a free kick past junior goalkeeper Emily Doherty (Oceanside, N.Y.).
Notes
- The Seawolves outshot the Black Bears 16-7 and led in shots on goal 8-5.
- Murrer and sophomore Christen Cahill led the team with four shots. Murrer had a team-high three shots on goal.
- Doherty made three saves in net in defeat.
