Thibodaux, La. - Stony Brook (1-2) was held to six hits and the Nicholls St. Colonels (2-1) plated five runs in the sixth inning to win win the series' rubber match 10-0 Sunday.
Turning Point
Stony Brook trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning, but a five-run inning from Nicholls St. would put the game away. The Colonels totalled six hits, three of which were doubles, in the inning. Most of the damage came against freshman Cole Creighton (Levittown, Pa.) who started the inning in place of starter Tim Knesnik (Milford, Pa.).
Inside the Numbers
- The Stony Brook offense was held without a run in the last 17 innings of the series after scoring six runs in game one, and plating a run in the first frame of game two.
- Senior Robert Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) collected two hits in four at-bats. He went 4-for-11 in the series.
- Knesnik received the loss, despite throwing five stong innings. He allowed three runs on five hits, striking out five.
- Junior Nick Brass (Shirley, N.Y.) threw two scoreless innings in relief.
