Feb. 17, 2015

Final Stats

Albany, N.Y. - Junior Jameel Warney (Plainfield, N.J.) led three Stony Brook players in double figures with 20 points as the Seawolves rallied from an 11-point first-half deficit to beat Albany, 59-56, Tuesday night at SEFCU Arena.

Junior Carson Puriefoy (Wenonah, N.J.) had 15 points, including a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left.

Junior Scott King (Derry, N.H.) added 12 key points off the bench to help Stony Brook (18-10, 9-4 America East) snap Albany's 13-game winning streak and hand the Great Danes (18-8, 12-1) their first conference loss of the season.

Warney grabbed 11 rebounds, recording his nation-leading 18th double-double of the season.

Junior Rayshaun McGrew (Chicago, Ill.) finished with 14 rebounds.

Ray Sanders and Sam Rowley led Albany with 12 points apiece. The Great Danes shot 20-58 (.345) from the field. It was their worst shooting percentage of the season.

Quotes . . .
Steve Pikiell
"To come up here and play well is a good feeling. We did a much better job on the backboards in the second half. Albany rebounds the ball extremely well and showed that in the first half. [Sam] Rowley was as good as I've seen on the boards this season. Scott King gave us a great burst of energy off the bench tonight. The contributions we got from our bench energized us."

Scott King
"When coach [Pikiell] puts me into the game, he expects me to shoot the ball. When I made the first one, I got into a decent rhythm. I just tried to get some rebounds and bring energy off the bench."

Carson Puriefoy
"I like having the ball in my hands at the end of games. Great players love those kind of opportunities."

Key Moment
Albany led 29-18 with 4:06 left in the first half, but the Great Danes went without a field goal the rest of the half. Stony Brook closed to 31-29 on King's second three of the half. Albany did not lead by more than four in the second half.

The Seawolves took their first lead, 35-33, since 2-0 after Warney's lefty jump hook in the lane nearly three minutes into the second half.

McGrew's put back off a miss gave the Seawolves the lead (49-47) for good with 6:02 left in regulation. The lead stretched to as many as six, but Albany's Dallas Ennema made it 55-52 after a three from the wing.

After Puriefoy hit two free throws with 13 seconds left to make it 59-56, Evan Singletary's three-point attempt with five seconds left was short and Warney's rebound sealed the victory.
