Fort Myers, Fla. - Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) drove in all three Stony Brook runs as the Seawolves downed Big Ten power Purdue 3-2 in Saturday's first game. The Seawolves erased a four-run deficit in the night cap against Oakland, but fell to the Golden Grizzlies for the second straight day when they plated four runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 9-6 win.

Bryant's Reaction

"We made progress from day one to day two and the Purdue win was a really solid team effort," said head coach Megan Bryant. "Jane threw with a lot of poise and finished strong. We left too many runners on-base in the Oakland game, but we are starting to hit the ball hard. All in all we made good progress today."

Game One

Stony Brook jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Green drove in junior Alexandra Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) and senior Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) with a single to the left-center gap.

Junior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) kept the Boilermakers potent offense at bay all evening, notching her second complete game of the season. Purdue clawed runs in the third and fourth innings to tie the game, but that is all they would muster the rest of the way.

The tandem of Giosia and Green would team up again in the bottom of the sixth to put Stony Brook ahead for good. Giosia walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then moved to third on a ground out. That is when Green delivered once more with a single to left field. Sallen worked around a two-out walk in the seventh to run her record to 2-1 for the year.

Game Two

The Seawolves were forced to play catch-up in the second game as they fell behind to Oakland 4-0 after the first inning.

Patty Borges (Berkeley, Mass.) drilled an rbi double in the second and junior Diane Caruso (Middletown, N.Y.) belted her first career home run in the third to cut the deficit in half at 4-2.

Trailing 5-2 entering the fifth, Stony Brook's offense kicked into gear. Caruso and junior Melissa Phelan (Saddle Brook, N.J.) doubled and then Green blasted her first homer of the year to tie it at five.

The Seawolves took their first lead of the game in the sixth thanks to an rbi single from Giosia, but the Golden Grizzlies responded with a four run inning, capped by a three-run home run.

Caruso, Giosia and sophomore Lexie Shue (Lakewood, Calif.) notched two hits each. Freshman Maddy Neales (Orange, Calif.) fell to 0-1, giving up all nine runs over six innings.
