Gainesville, Fla. - Junior Johnny Caputo (Toronto, Ontario) got the Seawolves off to a quick start with a three-run homer run in the top of the first, but the Florida Gator bats responded with 15 hits and 14 runs the rest of the way to win 14-3.

Senk's Reaction

"Tons of credit goes to Florida," said head coach Matt Senk. "Anytime you give the second-ranked team in the nation multiple offensive opportunities, nights like tonight will unfortunately happen."

Turning Point

The Stony Brook quick start was erased almost immediately. The Gator offense accounted for five runs on four hits off of Stony Brook starter Tyler Honahan (Parker, Colo.) to lead 5-3 after one. Honahan (1-1) was one out away from escaping the inning unharmed after he got J.J. Schwarz to pop up with one out and the bases loaded, but the next three hitters came through with run-scoring hits.

Notes

  • Caputo's blast was the third of his career and the first home run of the season for the Seawolves.
  • Robert Chavarria (Garden, Grove, Calif.) has now reached base safely in all eight games this season, and 10 in a row dating back to last season, after he was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.
  • Sophomore Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) broke an 0-for-22 skid with two hits.
  • Sophomore Cam Stone (West Haven, Conn.) threw a scoreless inning in relief.

Up Next

The Seawolves will try to avoid the sweep behind the arm of redshirt sophomore Dan Zamora (La Puente, Calif.). The lefty is coming off of a win in his last outing vs. Louisiana-Lafayette. First pitch is slated for noon.
