Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. - By the fifth inning of Tuesday's non-conference game vs. Iona, all nine Seawovles starters had already recorded a hit. Their 15 total hits, which led to 11 runs, were more than enough for the Stony Brook staff, which saw five different pitchers combine to limit the Gaels to just three hits in an 11-2 victory.
Senk's Reaction
"Overall, it is a really good win," said head coach Matt Senk. "Anytime the offense has all nine starters get a hit, the defense plays error-free ball, and the staff pitches as effectively as they did, giving up only three hits, it makes for an overall great day. We will rest up, get in a good practice or two and get ready for the Creighton series this weekend."
Turning Point
Yesterday, the Seawolves were hurt by a 10-run inning early in the game. Today, they were the ones delivering the blow, scoring seven times in the second inning on seven hits. Junior Johnny Caputo (Toronto, Ontario) had two of the hits, leading off the frame with a double and adding an rbi single later in the inning after the Seawolves batted around. Freshman Malcolm Nachmanoff (Boston, Mass.) scored two with a double off the left-center field wall, while senior Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) and Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) also ripped rbi doubles.
Notes
- Junior Chad Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) was the winning pitcher, retiring all nine batters he faced through the game's first three innings before giving way to the bullpen.
- Sophomore Cam Stone (West Haven, Conn.) struck out three batters in two scoreless innings of work, while junior Nick Brass (Shirley, N.Y.) and freshman Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Mass.) turned in hitless outings.
- Five of Stony Brook's first seven batters notched multiple hits in the game. Caputo went 3-for-4 with three rbi, while freshman Bobby Honeyman (Massapequa, N.Y.) had two hits and reached base in all four at-bats.
- The 11 Stony Brook runs were a season-high and the most since they scored 15 at NYIT on May 7, 2014.
- Junior Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) and senior Robert Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) both recorded two hits on the day. Both players have reached base safely in 15 of 16 games this season. Parenty has notched a hit in 14 of 16 ball games, while Chavarria has hits in 13.
- Peragine recorded his team-high sixth multi-hit performance of the season.
- Stony Brook has held its opponents to three runs or less in eight of 16 ballgames.
