STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Junior LHP Tyler Honahan found his rhythm on Sunday afternoon and struck out a career-high 13 to lead the Stony Brook baseball team (9-10, 3-1 America East) to a 10-1 victory over visiting UMass Lowell (4-11, 0-1 America East) on Sunday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field to open a three-game conference series.
 
Honahan (Parker, Colo.) pitched 6.1 innings, allowing just four hits and a run, while striking out a team-best 13 River Hawks to pick up his fourth win of the season. Senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) collected three hits in the win, while junior 3B Johnny Caputo (Toronto, Ontario) and sophomore 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) each had a pair of hits and a RBI.

"This win doesn't happen without the hard work of everyone that helped get the field ready. We appreciate everyone's effort and the fans patients. We rewarded the fans with a really solid game. We had a lot of timely hitting and Tyler went out there and pitched great. It was a great start to the series and I look forward to tomorrow's double header."
 
Turning Point
The Seawolves scored at least one run in six of the eight offensive innings, including getting on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Stony Brook also scored two runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings to earn the third win on the last four games.
 
Notes
·      Stony Brook and UMass Lowell will meet on Monday for a double header to conclude the three-game series. The first pitch is slated for Noon at Joe Nathan Field.
·      Sophomore LHP Daniel Zamora (La Puente, Calif.) will start on the mound in game two of the series on Monday. Zamora is 2-2 with a 4.40 ERA this season. Neither teams has announced a game three starter.
·      Junior LHP Tyler Honahan (Parker, Colo.) recorded a career-best 13 strikeouts in the Sunday's win. His previous high was nine recorded against NYIT back on April 17, 2013 during his freshman season.
·      Six of the nine starters collected at least one hit on Sunday. Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) led the way with three hits from the leadoff spot.
·      The Seawolves pitchers (Tyler Honahan and Chad Lee (San Dimas, Calif.)) combined to record a season high 16 strikeouts and allowed just six hits on Sunday.
