Final Stats
Stony Brook, N.Y. - Junior Diane Caruso (Middletown, N.Y.) went 2-for-2 with a home run and three rbi and junior Jane Sallen (Lake Worth, Fla.) surrendured just one hit and no walks over five innings to lead the Stony Brook softball team to an 8-0 victory over Columbia in five innings.
Bryant's Reaction
"I really liked our approach today," said head coach Megan Bryant. "I thought we were focused, locked-in, ran the bases well, swung the bats well, played solid defense and Jane gave us a really good effort on the mound."
Turning Point
With the score tied at 0-0 in the bottom of the second inning, Caruso lifted a pitch over the wall in left center for her third home run of the year to give Stony Brook a 2-0 lead. The Seawolves added five runs in the third inning and another in the fourth to win 8-0.
Notes
- Seven Stony Brook players combined to record nine hits.
- Caruso and senior Bria Green (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) each recorded two hits.
- Caruso's dinger represented the ninth consecutive game in which a Stony Brook player has hit a home run. 
- Junior Alexandra Pisciotta (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) extended her hit streak to 12 games with a single in the fourth inning
- Green recorded her 7th multi-hit game in 18 outings. Five of those have come in her last nine games.
- The complete game shutout was Sallen's second of the season and second in as many starts. She has not allowed a run in her last 16 innings.
