Game One Box Score | Game Two Box Score

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook baseball team (15-11, 8-2 AE) swept Saturday's America East Conference doubleheader at Joe Nathan Field against visiting UMBC (14-12, 4-4 AE), winning game one 8-0 and then staging a come-from-behind 6-5 walk-off win in game two.

The Seawolves entered the bottom of the seventh inning (final scheduled inning) in game two trailing 5-1, but rattled off four hits that plated four runs, including a two-out game-tying single to right field by senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) that capped the scoring in the seventh.

After junior RHP Chad Lee (San Dimas, Calif.) sent UMBC down in order in the top of the eighth inning, Sophomore CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) and junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) both singled and senior 2B Rob Chavarria (Garden Grove, Calif.) delivered his second walk-off single of the conference season with a single to left field that brought home Handley.

Junior LHP Tyler Honahan (Parker, Colo.) tossed a gem in game one to earn his fifth win of the season. He pitched 6.2 innings and didn't allow a run on four hits, while striking out seven. Parenty collected two hits, including a three-run triple in the eighth inning.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"In game one Tyler pitched a great game and we played good defense. Then we were able to break through on their bullpen. The second game (the UMBC) starter did a magnificent job. That kid can really pitch. He was doing a good job of carving us up, but we hung in there and managed to get him out in that last inning with some good at bats against him. We got to their bullpen and the good at bats continued. It was just a great come-back win."

Game One Turning Point
The Seawolves got on the board in the second inning on a two-run home run over the right field fence by sophomore 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.). Those runs would prove to be all Stony Brook needed thanks to solid pitching from starter Tyler Honahan and sophomore reliever Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.), who threw 2.1 innings of hitless baseball to earn the save.

Game Two Turning Point
Stony Brook's defense helped preserve the 5-1 UMBC lead in the top of the seventh inning after the Retrievers already scored one run. Handley, the Seawolves centerfielder, gunned out UMBC baserunner Anthony Gatto at the plate to end the inning. That seemed the shift the momentum over to the Stony Brook dugout and allowed for come-back win.
