Box Score

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook baseball team (16-11, 9-2 AE) earned its second straight America East Conference series sweep after Sunday afternoon's 6-0 victory over visiting UMBC (14-13, 4-5 AE) at Joe Nathan Field.

The Seawolves got a solid pitching performance by sophomore RHP Ryley MacEachern (Saugus, Mass.), who went 6.2 innings, allowing no runs on three hits and striking out four to earn his first victory of the season. Stony Brook also handed UMBC starter Matt Chanin his first loss of the season and chased him in the fourth inning after touching him for three runs and six hits.

Altogether, the Seawolves collected 11 hits, including three by freshman RF Andrew Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.) and a pair by senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario).

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"UMBC was a very hot team coming in, having won 10 of their last 11 games. So we knew we had our work cut out for us. We knew that it was going to take a big weekend for us to get where we need to be. That is exactly what the guys did. I'm very proud of them."

Turning Point
Stony Brook scored one run in the second, third, fourth and fifth to build a lead that proved to be enough as the pitching staff to sophomore Ryley MacEachern (Saugus, Mass.), freshman Kevin Kernan (Mahopac, N.Y.) and freshman Teddy Rodliff (Quincy, Mass.) combined to toss a four-hit shutout.

Notes
- Sunday's shutout was the third of the season for the Seawolves' pitchers and the second of the weekend. SBU blanked UMBC, 8-0, in game one on Saturday and also shutout Nicholls State, 6-0, in the season-opener back on Feb. 13.
-
Sophomore Ryley MacEachern (Saugus, Mass.) lost a no-hitter with two outs in the fifth inning of Sunday's game.
-
Junior 3B Johnny Caputo (Toronto, Ontario) has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games.
-
Freshman RF Andrew Gazzola (Coram, N.Y.), sophomore SS Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.) and junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) have each hit safely in the last four games.
