April 19, 2015

Final Stats

Stony Brook, N.Y. - Senior Bria Green's (Wheatley Heights, N.Y.) rbi double in the top of the ninth inning lifted the Stony Brook softball team (21-13, 7-2 AE) over Maine in the decisive game of the series on Sunday evening. Senior Allison Cukrov (Irvine, Calif.) entered the game in the second inning and pitched the remaining 7 1/3 innings in shutout fashion to earn her third win of the week.

Bryant's Reaction

"I'm proud of our team for fighting for this win today," said head coach Megan Bryant. "While our offensive execution wasn't good, our pitching and defense kept us in the game and gave us a chance to win. Lauren Kamachi came up big with her home run and Chelsea Evans had a terrific at-bat in the ninth resulting in a single up the middle that proved to be huge. Allie was tremendous in the circle and was at her best when we needed her to be."

Turning Point

The Seawolves bats' were having a difficult time figuring out Maine's pitcher Alexis Bogdonavich until senior Lauren Kamachi (Surrey, British Columbia) tied the game in the sixth inning with a two-out solo home run to centerfield. They manufactured the winning run in the ninth when freshman Chelsea Evans (Merced, Calif.) bounced a two-out single up the middle and Green drove her in with a bloop double to right center.

Notes

  • The Seawolves' 1-4 hitters collected eight of the nine Stony Brook hits. Senior Allie Pisciotta had three hits, while Green and senior Shayla Giosia (Runnemede, N.J.) each had two.
  • Cukrov has allowed just two runs in her last 27 innings. In the series vs. the Black Bears, she pitched 14 1/3 scoreless innings, going 2-0.
  • Stony Brook has hit a home run in 23 of its last 25 games.
  • The Seawolves have won their last 10 conference series. The last time they lost a series was to Binghamton in the 2013 season.
