Box Score April 25, 2015

Game 1 Box Score | Game 2 Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Stony Brook baseball team (22-12, 11-2 AE) swept Saturday's America East Conference doubleheader against host Albany at Varsity Field, taking game one, 15-3, and earning a 2-1 victory in game two.

The Seawolves won each game in different fashion, claiming game one by cranking out 18 hits, but then only mustering three hits to win the second game. Sophomore CF Toby Handley (Whitby, Ontario) collected four hits and drove in three runs in the opening game, while junior LF Jack Parenty (Wantagh, N.Y.) drove in five runs and senior C Cole Peragine (Belle Ewart, Ontario) scored four times.

Sophomore 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) had two of Stony Brook's three hits in game two and scored both of the Seawolves' runs, including hitting his second home run of the season, a two-out shot to right field in the fourth inning that gave Stony Brook a 2-0 lead. Baker scored a total of five runs on the day.

Quoting Head Coach Matt Senk
"We performed well in many areas to earn today's sweep led by some terrific individual performances including Casey Baker offensively, Toby Handley defensively and Tyler Honahan, Dan Zamora and Cam Stone on the mound."

Game One Turning Point
After Albany tied the score at 3-3 in the fifth inning, the Seawolves quickly retook the lead in the top of the sixth by scoring a pair of runs on a RBI double by freshman DH Malcolm Nachmanoff (Boston, Mass.) and a RBI sacrifice fly by sophomore SS Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.). Stony Brook then broke the game open by adding three in the seventh, four in the eighth and three more in the ninth.

Game Two Turning Point
Stony Brook struck first by plating a run in the second inning without the benefit of the hit. Sophomore 1B Casey Baker (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) walked to lead off the inning, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by freshman 3B Andruw Gazzola (Corham, N.Y.), moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a ground out by sophomore SS Jeremy Giles (Claremont, Calif.). After that, the Seawolves' pitchers of sophomore LHP Daniel Zamora (La Puente, Calif.) and sophomore RHP Cameron Stone (West Haven, Conn.) allowed a run on five hits to secure the victory.
